A Beacon of our Community
Part of our vision for St. Andrew’s is to be a beacon for our community, a force of good in our community.
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
Some of the ways we meet this vision is by:
- Inter-generational work with senior members of the congregation of St. Andrew’s Church, Rockingham Baptist Church, the Salvation Army and local care homes on a 6 week project called The Happiness Club. (see pictures below and twitter feed)
- Free parent courses such as learning English in school and helping with behaviour at home
- Courageous advocacy as demonstrated by our Harvest appeal to a local food bank, child led money raising projects to help support global, national and local emergencies, Operation Christmas Child, poppy appeal and much more! (see pictures below and twitter feed)
- Christmas choir in the community where we do a 'Christmas Tour' around local care homes and churches (see pictures below and twitter feed)
- Parent engagement events such as Macmillan coffee morning, reading open mornings, Science fair and much more! (see pictures below and twitter feed)
- Monthly 'Love Your Neighbour' challenges; where children partake in monthly challenges that make a positive impact on their community (see pictures below and twitter feed)
- Dedicated Parent Support Advisor who helps parents with a range of issues such as poverty, mental health, attendance, and a friendly ear to listen!
- Working closely with your Church Mission Enabler to provide closer links between the pupils of St. Andrew's and the congregation of St. Andrew's Church (see pictures below and twitter feed)
- And much more!
