We believe the playground is a very important part of our school and the children’s curriculum. Children spend over 6 hours in the playground each week. We also know that our children’s speech and language skills are below the national average. Because of this we have created a playground that stimulates learning (especially speech and language) through play and tries to accommodate many of the different types of play that children enjoy. Much of it was designed by the children themselves through school council. In our playground we have:

Den making, talking tent, dreaming hut, quiet zone, stage, trim trail, multi-sports area, hobbit hole and dressing up box.

Because of our key principle that children should take responsibility for their choices and learning, we have child peer mediators who are on duty every day in the playground to help any children who believe they are being denied the right to a safe and happy playtime.
